Project Manager:
Incoll Management
Aquatic Consulting Engineers: Geoff Ninnes Fong & Partners
Project Value: $2.10m

Trisley Hydraulic Services

Project Manager: Robert Trisley
Quality Assurance: Sandy Armstrong
Manpower: 9,800 hours

Scope of Works

To provide backup filtration systems for the Competition pool and Diving Pool at the 2000 Olympic Games. This included the installation of two 750m3/hr UFF/Ozone plants and a 25m3/hr UFF/UV filtration plant.

Tender Process

After an exhaustive Australia wide pre-tender review, four tenderers were considered to have the capacity to complete the Design and Construction works required. The tender review was based not only on price but also included technical expertise, project management skills, manpower, innovative design and financial capacity. Our Company whilst not the lowest tenderer in respect of project cost, clearly demonstrated the superior technical expertise of both our design and design team.

Project Details

As the existing filtration plants were located some 6m below deck level with limited access (3.5m x 3.5m access hatches) the filtration plants not only had to deal with the limited access available but also would meet the most stringent water quality standards as required by FINA. The use of UFF filters provided exceptional water quality but also worked well with the limited access available. Importantly, this type of filtration process provides the best defence against bacteria such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia.  The pressure to complete the works in time for the Olympics is self evident. Before the works could be completed, major faults were found in the existing filtration plants for all pools in the Centre. It was at this point that work on Stage 1 was halted. Our Company was then asked by the Olympic Construction Authority to submit a Design & Construct proposal to them to instal new filtration plants throughout the Centre.

Sydney International Aquatic Centre – (May 2000 – Dec 2000)

Stage 2

Client: Olympic Co-Ordination Authority
Project Manager: Incoll Management
Project Value: $4.85m

Trisley Hydraulic Services

Design Team: Geoff Ninnes Fong & Partners / Fulham Engineering / Robert Trisley
Project Manager: Robert Trisley
Quality Assurance: Sandy Armstrong
Manpower: 9,800 hours

Scope of Works

To provide new filtration systems for the Competition pools at the 2000 Olympic Games. This included the installation of a 750m3/hr UFF/Ozone, 600m3/hr UFF/Ozone and 25m3/hr UFF/UV (Stage 1) filtration plants. Post Olympic works included the installation of 2 x 600m3/hr UFF/UV and 100m3/hr UFF/UV filtration plant.

Project Details
After being awarded the initial works and commencing on site, major flaws were found in the existing filtration systems. The OCA after advice from the Aquatic Engineering Consultant, asked our Company to submit a proposal to replace all of the filtration plants in the Centre. We engaged Fulham Engineering Services Pty Ltd as our design consultants. To provide the necessary and important overall Project co-ordination, Quality control & Engineering backup, Geoff Ninnes Fong & Partners were engaged by Fulham Engineering Services as a sub consultant.   As the existing filtration plants were located some 6m below deck level with limited access (3.5m x 3.5m access hatches) our design team designed the filtration plants not only to deal with the limited access available but also would meet the most stringent water quality standards as required by FINA. The use of UFF filters provided exceptional water quality but also worked well with the limited access available. Importantly, this type of filtration process provides the best defence against bacteria such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia.  The pressure to complete the works in time for the Olympics is self evident. Post Olympics brought a different pressure in that the OCA had contractual commitments to hand back the Centre to the day to day operators with significant financial penalties for not doing so. All of the works were completed on time and to budget. The end result has been that the Centre now has filtration systems in place that will provide crystal clear water for the future. The water quality results achieved surpassed that of any other Aquatic Centre in the Country.

Cook & Phillip Park Aquatic Centre – (Feb 2002 – May 2003)

Stages 1 & 2

Client: City of Sydney
Project Manager: Stevenson & Associates
Project Value: $0.85m

Trisley Hydraulic Services

Project Manager: Robert Trisley
Quality Assurance: Sandy Armstrong
Manpower: 1,300 hours

Scope of Works

Stage 1 was to provide new UV systems for the 50m pool, Leisure Pool and Hydrotherapy pool whilst keeping the Centre open to the public. Stage 2 was to increase the filter area for the 50m pool. New pipework for the Leisure pool and an entirely new filtration plant for the Hydrotherapy pool. This included the installation of an additional 5m2 filter for the 50m pool and a 20m2 UFF filter for the Hydrotherapy pool. As the Centre was utilising Ozone, all of the redundant Ozone plant including generators and carbon filters had to be removed. Access to this plantroom was very limited. A 3m x 3m access hatch through the roof was the only means of entry.

Project Details

As the existing filtration plants were located some 4m below deck level with limited access (3m x 3m access hatches) our program of works not only to deal with the limited access but also would meet the clients demand that the pools were to stay operational during the works period. We worked closely with the Centre Manager in mapping out a program of works which enabled us to get the work done but also kept in mind critical operating times such as Learn to swim classes etc. Most of the changeover works were carried out after hours to minimise pool closure. All of the works were completed on time and to budget. The end result has been that the Centre now has filtration systems in place that will provide crystal clear water for the future.

Kalgoorlie Aquatic Centre – (May 1998 – Dec 1999)

Client: Consolidated Constructions
Project Architect: Peter Hunt Architects
Consulting Aquatic Engineers: Geoff Ninnes Fong & Partners
Project Value: $1.3m

Trisley Hydraulic Services

Project Manager: Robert Trisley

Scope of Works

To provide filtration systems for a major regional Aquatic Centre. This included the installation of a 500m3/hr Sand/UV, 300m3/hr Sand/UV and 2 x 40m3/hr UFF filtration plants. The Centre also had a water slide included in the design.

Tender Process

This project was a Design and Construct project, the Builder and Architect put forward a filtration design that was fully documented by the Aquatic Design Engineer. Our role was to provide a competitive price that assisted in winning the project.

Project Details

Kalgoorlie lies some 600km east of Perth, WA. Being in a remote location meant that the filtration plants needed to be reliable. As well as reliability, the general location is well known for the high levels of air-borne dust, which needed to be accounted for in the filtration process.  The use of sand filters utilising a slow filtration rate and Ultra Violet sanitisation has provided the client with a system that fulfills their expectations. All of the filtration works were completed on time and to budget. The Centre has now been seen as a major lifestyle improvement to the City of Kalgoorlie.

Bunbury Aquatic Centre – (Feb 2001 – Projected Completion Nov 2001)

Client: Consolidated Constructions
Project Architect: Peter Hunt Architects
Consulting Aquatic Engineers: Geoff Ninnes Fong & Partners
Project Value: $0.8m

Trisley Hydraulic Services

Project Manager: Robert Trisley
Site Manager: Rodney Borra
Quality Assurance: Sandy Armstrong

Scope of Works

To provide filtration systems for a major regional Aquatic Centre. This includes the installation of a 575m3/hr Sand/UV, 300m3/hr Sand/UV and 1 x 25m3/hr UFF filtration plants. The Centre also had a water slide included in the design.

Tender Process

We provided a filtration price in competition with other filtration installers to the builder. The price was based on a fully documented design by Geoff Ninnes Fong & Partners. Our installation price could be demonstrated to provide water quality and plant costs that would meet the expectations of both the builder and end user. With some initial budget constraints placed upon the builder, we developed the design with only minor modifications to meet cost concerns without sacrificing water quality.

Project Details

Bunbury is located 220km south of Perth, WA. Bunbury is a growth area of the State and the addition of the new Aquatic Centre provides the population with an attractive asset. The pools will be well patronised, so the plants have been designed for medium to high bather loads.  The use of sand filters utilising a slow filtration rate and Ultra Violet sanitisation have provided the client with a proven system that will be reliable, cost efficient and be able to accommodate the expected bather loads of the Centre when complete. We feel sure that the Bunbury Aquatic Centre now complete will be another successful installation that demonstrates our Company’s ability to provide filtration plants that meets the expectations of our clients.

Warnbro Aquatic Centre – (Mar 2002 – Mar2003)

Client:
Consolidated Constructions
Project Architect: Cox Howlett & Bailey Wotten
Consulting Aquatic Engineers: Geoff Ninnes Fong & Partners
Project Value: $1.5m

Trisley Hydraulic Services

Project Manager: Robert Trisley
Site Manager: Rodney Borra

Scope of Works

To provide filtration systems for a major regional Aquatic Centre. This included the installation of a 500m3/hr Sand, 300m3/hr Sand/UV, 270m3/hr UFF/UV, 60m3/hr UFF/UV & 40m3/hr UFF/UV filtration plants. The Centre also had a water slide included in the design.

Tender Process

As this project was a Design and Documented project, our Company worked hard to deliver a tender price that was competitive.

Project Details

Warnbro lies some 60km south of Perth, WA. Being in a regional location, meant that the filtration plants needed to be reliable. As well as reliability, the Warnbro area is one of the fastest growing areas of the greater Perth area. This meant that the pools would be heavily utilised so water quality during peak loads was to be a consideration.  The use of sand filters utilising a slow filtration rate and Ultra Violet sanitisation has provided the client with a system that fulfills their expectations. The use of UFF filtration for the higher loaded pools ensures water clarity and quality at all times. All of the filtration works were completed on time and to budget. The Centre once in full operation will provide the local population with a valuable asset.

Sutherland Aquatic Centre – (Feb 1999 – Oct 1999)

Client:
Sutherland Council
Project Engineer: Stevenson & Associates
Project Value: $1.3m

Trisley Hydraulic Services

Design Team: Fulham Engineering / Robert Trisley

Project Manager: Robert Trisley
Site Manager: Paul Borra
Quality Assurance: Sandy Armstrong

Scope of Works

To provide replacement filtration systems and refurbishment for a major Sydney Aquatic Centre. This includes the installation of an 850m3/hr Sand/Ozone and 60m3/hr Sand/Ozone filtration plants. The Centre also had major problems in respect of reticulation, which needed to be addressed. The pool’s interior was tired an in need of a new surface.

Tender Process

The project was of a design and construct nature. After pre-tender competition, our Company along with Swimplex Pty Ltd were invited to provide Council with a design that would provide solutions to the water quality, reticulation and interior surfacing problems that the Centre was experiencing. Our design and pricing for the project was seen as providing the most innovative solutions and our Company was awarded the contract. Ove Arup & Partners provided initial design documentation which had to be developed. The tender documents clearly stated that it would be the contractors responsibility to bring about a successful outcome in respect of the filtration plant.

Project Details

We provided a filtration design that maintained some of the existing plant and incorporated a new Ozone filtration process to take into account the very high bather loads of the Centre. The 850m3/hr system installed provides the Centre with a turnover time of 1.4hrs. This pool has an average bather load of over 2,500 bathers each day. To improve the pools’ reticulation system, a complete new pipeline system was designed. This meant that the pool floor was cut into six slabs with the new reticulation system being installed and encased in the pool floor. The result was that water could now be directed more evenly to the entire pool area. The interior surface was marblesheen, which was stained and generally showing significant signs of wear and tear. Our work included removal of the existing surface back to the concrete structure and then fully tiling the pool interior. The use of the existing sand filter structures brought significant savings for the client. The benefits of Ozone can be easily justified in a pool with such high bathing loads. The end result for the Centre has been a pool that now can handle the very high bathing loads that it experiences. As a pool refurbishment, several problems naturally cropped up. Our interaction with the Client successfully investigated these concerns and our design team provided solutions, which overcame these hurdles.

Lane Cove Aquatic Centre – (June 2000 – June 2001)

Client:
Belmadar Constructions
Project Aquatic Engineer: Geoff Geoff Ninnes Fong & Partners
Project Architect: Michael Davies & Associates
Project Value: $0.8m

Trisley Hydraulic Services

Project Manager: Robert Trisley
Site Manager: Paul Borra
Quality Assurance: Sandy Armstrong

Scope of Works

To provide filtration systems for an indoor Aquatic Centre for the Lane Cove Council. This includes the installation of a 250m3/hr UFF/UV, 420m3/hr Sand/UV, 100m3/hr UFF/UV and 40m3/hr UFF/UV filtration plants.

Tender Process

The building project was a design and documented project with the pool filtration plant being a nominated sub-contract based on a fully documented design by the project Aquatic Engineer. Once the builder was selected, some project cost concerns were encountered. We then worked intensely with the Builder, Architect and Engineer along with other parties to provide innovative solutions. After several design options were discussed, a filtration proposal that was only altered in a minor way was found acceptable to all parties and was agreed upon.

Project Details

Geoff Ninnes Fong & Partners provided a filtration design that assessed the bathing loads that were expected in the Centre and as a result, both Sand and UFF filtration was utilised. Underlying all of the plants, UV sterialisation was used to assist in water quality. The project site is situated on a severe slope. Architecturally, this has enabled the pools to be situated on various terraces and whilst aesthetically this looks attractive it brought about during construction some issues in respect of the plant reticulation processes. These have all been dealt with successfully. The end result for the Centre will be filtration plants capable of handling the bather loads expected and providing reliability to the operator.
